8 Tips to a New Exercise Routine
It’s back to school time and for some people that means finding a new exercise routine. You might be sending your kids to school or going back to school yourself. Maybe you got a new job or are moving across the state or into a new home. Whatever the change, you may need to find a new exercise routine that you can stick with day after day. For some people this never happens and for others they try but aren’t dedicated to making it work.
The following tips will help you or even you family find an exercise routine that works with your every day life.
- Look at your schedule and find blocks of time where you are free for 15 min or more.
- Write in your calendar what you will do during that time. Example: Take a walk alone or with your family or friends. Do some strength exercises. Play outside with the kids or some friends.
- Hang your exercise calendar on the refrigerator. This way everyone knows what will happen each day. This will help eliminate interruptions and help with consistency.
- Tell others what you plan to do each day and ask them for encouragement in sticking with your new routine to get healthy.
- Hire a Personal Trainer. Getting started is the hardest part. A Personal Trainer can help you find effective exercises to do in less than 15 min.
- Attend a group fitness class or meet with a friend at the same time every day. If you have someone waiting for you, you are more likely to go and stay consistent in your routine.
- Don’t let the little things get in the way of your new exercise routine. If the phone rings, let the answering machine get it. Make exercises top priority during that time.
- Don’t get discouraged. If you miss one day, it is not the end of the world. Just be sure to get right back into it the next day. If you miss too many days in a row it is easy to stay out of your new exercise routine.
